Salt Water

Post by BG21 » Tue Jul 22, 2025 5:46 pm

I am leaving for vacation next week. My mom will be staying and taking care of all of my animals. Is it okay to make salt water in advance, put it in a mason jar with a lid, and leave it at room temperature for her so she doesn't have to worry about making the salt water? I know it is fairly easy but she gets overwhelmed easily.

Hi!
I always pre-make my salt water and let it sit out at room temperature. A half gallon usually lasts me a couple of weeks for both of my tanks. I'm not sure how long you'll be gone, but your crabs would be fine without a water change for a week (unless it gets really sandy or poopy of course). I only change my pools 1x/week and my dry food 2x/week. For the dry food, I make their current dinner dishes and their dishes for their next food change at the same time. Then I seal the future dinner plates in a zip lock, and then a plastic container. You could do that too, then your mom wouldn't even have to make their plates up, just switch them out if needed.
