If my water tests are coming up great and the filter is adding air to the water to keep it fresh do I need to do the 20% water change? This is for my fresh water pool.
I have been using the water tests to gauge when I change out my salt water since it has now messed up 2 filters so I have to change the whole 2.5 gal each time. If it gets gross I immediately change it out but most of my guys aren't swimmers so they don't muck up the water with sand and moss and poop. Lol

I would still do small weekly water changes. You might get away with larger monthly water changes - I've just always preferred the more frequent smaller ones. What are the readings giving you on ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate?
I'm speaking for freshwater. I have no real sw experience.

Nitrites 0 nitrates 30 ammonia 0

Good. Yep, I'd continue the partial weekly changes to keep the nitrates in check.

Not just Nitrates, but things that aren't being removed from the water by the filter, like solid debris, tracked in salt, and minerals in the water that will become condensed over time due to evaporation of the water.
