Can you microwave crab water?

Post by CrabbySquirrel » Tue Nov 03, 2015 3:28 pm

I keep my salt and fresh water for the crabs in gallon jugs in the fridge (based on suggestions I had received way back when I first started). So being in the fridge, the water is cold when I pour it into the containers. Can I microwave that water to bring it up to a more suitable temperature, or do I have rely on my current method (putting very hot water into a slightly larger container, then not-fully submerging the crab container in there and waiting until it gets to a good temp)...?

Thoughts? I guess the only thing that I can think of is that it might mess with the dechlorinator in the water -- but I don't know enough about that, hence why I'm here asking

Microwaving is fine - just stir well after so there are no hot spots and check to make sure it hasn't gotten too warm. Some people worry about heating plastics, so if that's something that concerns you go with glass instead.

Cool! That will be so much easier than what I currently do! :)
