aquarium salt?

I bought a product called 'aquarium salt'. now I read the back of it and it says it's for *gasp* freshwater aquariums but, it also said it's made from sea water. so I'm guessing it's not the right kind but just curious, could I use it for saltwater?

...do not buy what is sold as “Freshwater Aquarium Salt”. While the salt is safe for use with hermit crabs, it contains only a few elements rather than a full mix that is helpful to hermit crabs. The two major brands that are NOT the right kind of salt to buy are API and Doc Wellfish. These types of salt are not going to be helpful in the long run, but they are not harmful.

So no, it won't hurt them or help, but you shouldn't use it.. For the right types of water (both fresh and salt), try this link: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=92553

It should give the correct type of saltwater mix and dechlorinator to use. Most crabbers, including myself, use "Instant Ocean" salt, and I use Seachem Prime dechlorinator, super cheap and will last forever.

I know the type you are talking about HerperWChickens, I was *almost persuaded to buy it! It is (obviously) salt designed for being put into freshwater aquariums as a healing agent or for brackish fish such as mollies who need less concentrated amounts of salt. So it will most likely not be providing all the essential contents that full strength reef aquarium salt would provide.
