Goodness gracious, I have been using the zoo med stuff!!!
Looks like I need to go to the pet store again. I was wondering I have a sea salt grinder I got from the grocery store, it doesn't have any iodine in it which I know is bad, are there other things to look for that might be bad?

Anti caking agents... you'll probably need to call the company to find out if they use them. I don't think they are listed as ingredients.

I think they are required to list them on the ingredient list....some people are allergic, and if they didn't list them they could be sued. I don't know many of the names of the anti-caking agents, but I know one is Yellow Prussiate of Soda, because that's what's in my table salt. Some brands just list it as "anti-caking agent", so no confusion there, LOL.

My Morton Iodized Salt says :Salt, Calcium Silicate, Dextrose and Potassium iodide.

I have a container of Cerulean Seas Coarse Sea Salt and it only list Sea Salt as an ingrediant. It claims to be from the Califormia shoes... and is Kosher. It has a phone number so some time I should call and see if they use anti caking agents and then we'll know for sure if they have to list it.

Of course I use Oceanic for my hermits not human salt ...

Yes, it's VERY bad for them----it's a cyanide derivative. The trace amounts are fine for humans, but very bad for hermies....they're so small, you know. It's much better to use an aquarium salt, not a human salt.

Be careful with any human salt ----some of them have different levels of minerals. One crabkeeper used human-grade salt for her crabbie's water, and it got really slimy from the minerals. I still say aquarium-type salts are better, because they were designed for use in water; human-grade salts were designed for use in food and might be troublesome when mixed with water. You could still put it in your hermie's food, though.

Oops... I messed up with this post. Paniced... I hadn't used HBH I had used Zoomed something or other...

SORRY!

I've switched to Catalina real ocean water. I don't care about the expense. To me the real thing is the best thing.
