HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I own three small PP's in a 10 gallon long tank. I've been remodeling a whole lot in my tank, and my two water bowls (for FW and SW) take up too much space. Does anyone have any ideas of freshwater and saltwater bowls that won't take up too much space in my crabitat but are deep enough for my crabs to submerge in?

I used to rigidly stick to glass, but finally made the switch to plastic several months ago. My tanks are bigger, but I love silver ware drawer organizers for my water bowls and my moss pit/shell shop. Here is the type and brand that I've been using. They have spray on lined rubberized bottoms that make them non-slip for the crabs. I love them and so do the crabs.

You can always look at tupperware containers. It's what I use.

I have these bowls from the dollar store. They hold two cups with a little space from the rim so it doesn't slosh over. I sink them into the sub so just the lip of the bowl is resting on the sub. I think they were a buck or two for a 3 pack, and I love them! They are hard plastic so you won't have to worry about warping or the crabs destroying them.

Thanks for the responses! Next time my family goes to Target I suppose I'll look at small dog and cat dishes of all types and see what might work, if anything. Has anybody used dog or cat bowls before?

A few have used cat/dog bowls. Just aim for the plastic ones and they should be fine!
I was going to suggest putting the bowls on a small platform so that way they can run around underneath and still have double (?) the amount of space.

I'm already a die-hard fan of the doubled- up Tupperware (ie. One container sunk in the sub, a few pebbles to facilitate removal, an a second on top that the water goes in - it's so easy to remove the actual water dish for cleaning, while still having the dish sunk in the sub.... also, any crabs that burrow up against it won't be disturbed by removal - I think soilentgringa suggested it maybe, and it works perfectly.)

That's the set-up I've used for several years and swear by it! Eliminates all of the hassle of having to shore up the pool holes every time the containers are removed for cleaning and, as you pointed out, no burrowers are disturbed.

I use the doubled up Tupperware too, very easy.

Also because I've never worked with such raised bowls, what's a good object for them to use to climb in and out of the pools?

I've seen people use double bowls. Plastic sewing mesh could work well.

Where can I buy the mesh?

you can use large clam shells to hold water, and then they will also provide calcium

Craft/art/dollar stores.... anywhere you can get sewing stuff, yarn, crafty supplies.

I use pet bowls from the dollar tree. They have a 56 Oz and 21 Oz size. I'm always worried about mixing up the bowl so one's blue for fresh and the other is tan for salt. They are very sturdy and easy to remove.

I have also made the paint trim pans and they have worked great.
