Why is it that betta safe is listed as a safe product on the care guide but many of you say you shouldn't use it?? Very conflicting

It's safe, but there are better products out there. Prime for instance.

I think that Soilentgringa recently stated that it contained slime coat and that it wasn't good for the crabs.

Because the water guide needs to be updated and I haven't had a chance to do it on top of everything else I have going on right now.

Some products contain aloe as a "stress coat" or "slime coat" and some contain chemicals that do this.

I'm currently using a bottle of API with stress coat right now until it runs out because I'm not wasting it.

So far no deaths.

I really need someone dependable to help me contact manufacturers and check out their MSDS sheets for all these products and make sure that we have the most up to date care info based on both the experience of the long term crabbers (at least a decade) and the latest peer reviewed science and observations.

If it is on the safe list (it's been a while; I forgot it was) and you feel comfortable giving it to your crabs, do so.

The hard thing is that if a crab dies, it is almost impossible for us to pinpoint any one reason why it happened unless we have concrete evidence (molt attack, parasites, etc.)

The only member I know of who has ever necropsied and examined a dead crab is Wodesorel who used to be an admin, tech support, and our adoption coordinator, but she is no longer active due to medical reasons.
