HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I just purchased some of those crab pillows that are used to keep the humidity up. There is some powdery stuff inside and they tell you to just soak them in clean water for 5 min. Do i need to dechlorinate the water first?

I believe it dechlorinates the water for you?? I dont know, But I read on someones post that the water pillows are useless, but I haven't used them before so I don't know. Sorry lol.

I use dechlor water for mine, I use them mainly in my little KK when I'm transporting someone. They're not terribly effective for long term and large scale humidity but nice to have for emergencies and they are reusable.

if you are using those, you definitely still want to dechlor the water. i really wouldn't suggest using them though, since the crabs will eat anything and everything you put into the tank, and these things are not made of natural materials. just using regular sea sponges really works better for humidity purposes, and it's better for the crabs. you always want to dechlor all water you give them, or bathe them in, and i even only use dechlored water for cleaning their toys, tanks, shells, and food (like fruit).

Yes exactly.... there are much better/safer alternatives.
