Are you talking about the "ZooMed Salt Water Conditioner Part 2"? I tested it in my hydrometer. It's WAY too weak, you would need to use 5 times the recommended amount to get the same salinity as natural sea water. It also has artificial color and polymers (?). I definitely wouldn't use it.
As for the regular water conditioner (Part 1, not salt water), it also has polymers and artificial coloring. But it is the same formula as ZooMed's "Repti-Safe", which a lot of people have used without bad results. It's up to you.
But DON'T use the "salt water" conditioner.

I have been using the part one with no problem but again I am new at this so and embarssed to admit that I was using tap water and offering no salt water before
However part 2 came with it as a sample so that is what I was using. I didn't know that it was too weak. Any suggestions of the ideal stuff to use please let me know. I will be on my way to the pet store tomorrow as it is, because I just ran out of the salt water solution. Thanks for your help I sure can use it. Does any bottled water work for the dechlor. water?
? I feel horrible having subjected my little ones to harmful stuff due to my ignorance. But I am trying to learn because they sure do have me addicted!

I used the ZooMed Part1 and Part2 for several months before discovering that the Part2 (salt water mix) was too week. During that time, I really didn't experience any problems, and the deaths that I had were all from PPS (within the first month.)
I started using API water conditioner instead of the ZooMed now. Much cheaper, but you only need 4-5 drops per gallon, so you need to get an eye dropper or syringe to mix.

Diggers--Any of the salt water mixes in the marine fish section should be fine. Some major brands are: Red Sea, Tropic Marin, Oceanic, Instant Ocean, etc. AP Doc Wellfish freshwater aquarium salt is OK, too. I don't recommend any of the salts marketed for hermies, but ZooMed is the only one that's actually bad for them, Salt Water Glub and HBH Hermit Crab Salt are both OK, but I think they're overpriced.

Letting your water sit for 24 hours will work if your water only has chlorine added, but most municipalities also add chloramines, which are more stable and not easily removed. You would need to use a dechlorinator in that instance. Some dechlorinators also neutralize heavy metals. I use reverse osmosis water from the grocery store. That way I know all the bad stuff is gone.

It's not a good idea to take the water from the fish tank---it probably has a lot of fish bacteria in it and who knows what that would do to your crabs. If he has the salt water already mixed up but not put in the tank yet, you could use that, or you could mix it from the same aquarium salt he uses.
