ok where do you guy`s get salt mix it get? and what is it called??? any comement`s helpful

Pet store... it's the same salt they use for marine aquariums. I buy Oceanic brand. It comes in a small bag that makes 5 gallons for $5. I make 1 gallon at a time and use 1/2 cup salt per gallon water. Or you can make 2 cups using 1 Tablespoon salt or 1 cup by using 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt.

no....table salt contains anti-caking agents that can be hamrful to the hermit crabs. it's better to stick with salt intended for marine aquariums (not a dumb question, btw, it's important to ask questions because it not only helps you, but it can help others as well)

Petsmart and Petco should carry marine salt. Try looking for aquarium salt that is natural sea salt (such as doc well fish's)

Petco. i heard that Instant Ocean is the best. I use HBH, though.

There's been some debate about whether or not Instant Ocean is safe because it is a synthetic sea salt and may contain some questionable additives (although, i have been using it for over two years with no apparent problems).

I use Salt Water Glub and can always find it at Petco. Never had a problem with it, and my crabs like it.

Have you tested the salinity of the glub? I have heard from other members that it isn't salty enough ... wonder what your opinion on that is.

Now I use the Real Ocean by Catalina. Its filtered ocean water. It comes in a 5 gallon box and although its a bit of a pain to store, I like it basically because I don't have to worry about whether I am mixing it right. I figure you can't go wrong with the real thing. Ok but another dumb question lol. What is brackish water or however you spell it?

I think brackish water is salty but not as salty as marine... kind of an inbetween from fresh water and marine salt water.

I tested Glub...it's OK. Ridiculously expensive (about $24.00 a gallon!), but it is salty enough. I don't know what it's made from, though. I wish the label had a little more info.

ZooMed Salt Water Conditioner Part 2 is worthless, possibly harmful---suspected in more than a few "unexplained" hermie deaths.

I tested HBH.....you need to mix it 1 1/2 teaspoons per cup, not 1 teaspoon like the package says, but someone else managed to get the ingredients, and it seems to be just plain table salt, anti-caking agents and all. I won't use it.

I recommend Oceanic, Red Sea, or Doc Wellfish (API Aquarium Salt) if you want to use a mix. If you have the room to store the 5 gallon container, I consider Real Ocean to be the best, and my hermies really like it, too.
