Dangerous to exceed decholorination dosing instructions?
I was just wondering if it would be a bad idea to put an extra drop or two into my storage bottles that I put my crab water in. Each bottle holds 6 cups, which requires 12 drops of zoo-med repti-safe. I just wanted to add a few extra drops to be on the safe side, but I don't know if that would be a bad idea.

hi
I would try not to overdose... However some brands tell you to overdose if you are dealing with chlorimines instide of chlorine.

hi
chlorine evaporates, the other is chlorine bonded with ammonia and does not evaporate. Most dechlorinators only break the bond and then leave ammonia behind (whihc is a sin for anybody who works with fish tanks...)

So maybe that's why I always had problems with regular fish tanks-darn ammonia!!!
I doubt that an extra drop or two would hurt the crabs, but I would ere on the side of caution and not exceed the recommendation by much. However it is easier to make it by the gallon with repti-safe. If you go to the pharmacy counter and ask for a child dosing teaspoon there is a ML side on it. Measure out 1ML of the Repti-safe per Gallon of Water. Now it's easier to store!

lol Could be. Or Or PH. There are test kits to measure amonia and PH and drops to bring the levels back down, if they are too high. I never had tanks but I learned alot working at a pet store that delt in mostly fish. Yikes, that was almost 20 years ago! Where'd the time go? lol
I've considered making a gallon of each but I don't have a need to make a gallon of dechlored OR salt water right now. We only have 4 crabs and only 2 are mildly active (coming out every few days).![Neutral :|](./images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif)

If you store the water in a cool dark place it stays good for a LONG time with no algae or anything in it. I make three salt waters and three fresh waters at a time (by the gallon). I don't think you would have a problem making a gallon of each. It's nice to have around if yu need to boil new shells, dunk a cocohut, re-wet sand. etc. Maybe I'm just obsessive compulsive
. Yeah, that's probably it.

It shouldn't hurt. I've OD'ed my salt/fresh water pools for the Hermies and my Ball Python and Leopard Geckos bowls because I'm really paranoid. (Only by 1-2 drops.) They are healthy and active. I OD my fish too because of the way I add water. (Like for my 55G's I'll add a cap and a half so that treats 75G's of water. For my 80G I add 2 caps and that treats 100G's. For my 12G I add half a cap and that treats 25G. And so on.) They're healthy and active. I haven't heard of a brand yet that has bad effects with ODing. (Besides Stress Coat. Thats not to be used as a dechlorine thing anyways because it burns the fish to create the slime coat.)
I use Repti-Safe on the Hermits/Snake/Gecko and Prime on the Fish.

lol Storage is another thing; I have a skinny set of shelves (and wire rack) where we keep crab supplies and 20 oz bottles fit great...gallon jugs would not.
Of course, if I NEEDED gallons of water then I'd make them and find somewhere to put them but right now smaller bottles fit our demand and space/location.
Heck, having a gallon of each, premade and available for washes IS a good idea-thanks. I might make those up anyway and put them under a sink or something and still use my smaller bottles for refilling.![Idea ](./images/smilies/icon_idea.gif)
