hmm, i'd say it really depends.. what type of hermit crab do you have the most of?

If you have a ton of straws then i'd say go w/ the salt water pool. If you have a lot of PPs then I'd say go with the dechlorinated water pool. From my experience, straws are really the only ones that enjoy the salt water wayyy more than dechlorinated water. But then again I only have three species- PPs, Straws, and Ruggies.

What species do you have and how many of each?

I agree with IUcandie...

I have Es, PPs and Rugs and my larger pool is fresh water. But if I had straws I'd have a large Salt pool

then my vote goes towards a salt water pool... because strawberries really really need their salt water :) and straws are the ones who go into water the most.

::::chanting:::::: "Saltwater, saltwater, saltwater!"

The poll is now split 50/50. But I would really say saltwater just because you have 3 strawberries....really i'd say if you have any strawberries then you should invest in a large saltwater pool

well I know that all hermit crabs need saltwater becase it provides them w/ the electrolytes they need + it helps them shed their exoskeletong during molts.

PPs, however, are scared of water. They really don't get into deep water. They really just like to get the tip of their toes wet or stand on top of the rim of the water dish and use their feelers + pinchers to get to the water. So I don't think your PPs will go swimming in either a saltwater pool or a freshwater pool... but they will drink it, no doubt.

As far as Es are concerned. I'm not sure. I don't know much about Es other than I WANT ONE REALLY BAD and they are tank trashers, lol. From what I know and have read, however, they are very similar to ruggies... I occasionally see my ruggies inside of my water dishes- both salt and fresh.. so I don't think they have any water anxieties like PPs.

Strawberries, however, LOVE water, especially salt. So I would say having a saltwater pool would be the best because the straws will love to use it! The straws will also go for a dive (so to speak) in the freshwater pool if you provide that for them..but they prefer and love saltwater much much more- from what I've gathered in my strawberry experience.

Agree again -- except for the Es being tank trashers--mine are angels. :) :D

Honestly I never see anyone soaking in my tank but I have heard that Straws like to soak so I'd also do a salt pool.

My vote is also for salt!

So far my Brand NEW E's have only been too my salt water dish. I haven't seen them at the declor. one.
I have seen them sitting in the water though!
