Very important please respond ASAP

Post by CrazyCrabGirlio » Sat Nov 05, 2016 3:10 pm

Hey guys very important question. I went out to get some shells for my molting hermit crabs for when they come out of molt. and I found a gorgeous blue hermit crab at the store. I never see these so I want him so badly. that being said, is it dangerous to introduce a new crab to the tank while both my others are molting? someone please answer asap. thanks!

If you did buy the lil crab, please post a pic so I can see how pretty(I would totally buy it, I was told lots of people buy new crabs when theirs are molting, and sometimes end up with too many..lol)

Should be ok I believe. Check the crab descriptions to ID what kind of hermie he is to see if he requires more specific care. Also just give him a dip in the FW pool before adding to the tank. Pics please:)

It should be fine as long as your current tank is large enough to support the new crab and your current tank inhabitants. How big is your current tank, and how many crabs do you have? Whenever adding crabs, though purchase or adoptions make sure you aren't putting your current tank inhabitants at risk. That being said, if you have a proper set up, with enough space you should be fine. I will warn that the crab is likely just a bright purple pincher, or an equadorian. If is is an Ecuadorian we recommend at least a 40 breeder tank with 12 inches of sub as they are heavy diggers.

Even though getting violas in chain stores is low, it could potentially be a viola!? If so, they also require a bit more leg room then their caribbean (purple pincher) cousins and would reccomend keeping them in a 40 breeder as well. :)
