Did I kill my molter!? Slight cage jolt (shove)

Post by Kellie » Thu Dec 08, 2016 1:23 am

Hey guys I'm really worried right now.
I have a molter who went down the day I brought him home, it's been over a week now and he's still down but tank smells like the tank should (so he's alive).
However, the other day I stressed about my bubbler being way too loud and I wanted to put it on a stand (thinking it would help) so I needed to push the tank aside a bit on the dresser.
It was heavier than expected, although I should have expected this. When I pushed it didn't move until a sudden jolt in position when my force was enough.
I'm so worried I collapsed my crabs tunnel in that jolt?
Maybe I'm overreacting because I'm new to this, but I instantly regretted it.
I also worry that since then I haven't seen my other crab, but maybe I'm just missing her or she actually is beginning her molting too.

Tank smells fine still but I'm just worried.

Thanks!

It probably wasn't the best thing, but I'm going to assume it will be okay.. Many people have moved their tanks with molters down literally in the car and such successfully, so I'm going to assume a small jolt probably didn't hurt too much if the sand is at the right consistency. Obviously every case is different, but I think the risk of digging them up would be greater at this time.

I totally agree with Rawrgeous. When we had our 20g tank I will admit Slightly jolted the tank a few times on separate occasions while cleaning - all accidental. All 3 of our hermies came out fine from their molts.

Thank you guys, that calms my nerves a bit.
And yeah my sand is good, if I stick my finger down and pull it up the hole stays.
Hope I see them soon! I miss hearing Rio at night.
