Successful molt

Post by NCgirl19 » Wed Apr 05, 2017 1:50 pm

I believe I have had a successful molt! A few of my guys went down when I moved them into the 20gL (about 6 weeks ago) I assumed they were just destressing but one of them made a surprise appearance last night and looked shiny & new! I managed a peek this morning before I left and I'm about 50% sure I had another one up as well!

9 - I know that's way too many but I'm setting up a 55g (should be up in a week or so) and plan to keep the 4 smaller ones in the 20gL and move the bigger guys - whenever they come up.

I was asking because I have a 20gL and was looking to get more. If I have 3 small-med do you think I could add one more small?

I think the general rule is 5g per crab - but I'm not 100% sure. Someone more experienced may know for sure - maybe GoButterflies or Daws?

I'd like to hear from Daws or GotButterflies too. However in the meantime, I think the forum recommendation is 5 gal/crab for small/medium crabs, 15 gallons OR MORE for jumbo crabs, and you need a larger than 55 gallon tank if you are caring for jumbos so that it's wide enough for them - maybe 75 or 100 gallon minimum tank. Crabs grow fast. I'd look to the future when considering their space needs.

- 5 gal per crab for medium or smaller sized crabs.
- 7 gal per crab for large crabs.
- 15 gal per crab is bare minimum for jumbos and they require at least a 75 gal tank.

Please keep in mind that crabs do grow and maxing out a tank now will lead to adjusting the tank size in the future. Also with exotics and some Es, they may need more space than this. Every crab is different. Just have to pay attention to crabs needs/wants.
