Surface molt....
Surface molt....
OK so in my last post I mentioned that I was doing a tank upgrade but had 2 buried, so I moved 2 of my 4 to the new tank. They were doing great in the new tank then a few days ago I woke up and Toro was just kind of hanging out of his shell, looked dead! But I've read to always assume molt before death so I've put him in a tuberware bowl that is covered so it's dark for him. This was 4 days ago. There is no fishy smell but does have a very distinctive smell. Is there anything specific I should do? He hasn't moved since I found him like that!!!

Can you download the Tapatalk app on your phone? It makes it easy to share photos.

Re: Surface molt....
I can put popcorn in there bc that's his favorite, and the next morning it's picked to the kernel. But he is always in the same position. He's looked like this for 6 days.

Re: Surface molt....
I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. Is he the only one in the tank (no one else is eating the food?). If he's eating, that's a good sign. Offer protein and calcium too. If you have any honey or bee pollen, that may help give him a boost. I'd keep the tank/container where he's at dark too, just in case he needs to molt. I don't think there's much else you can do but provide optimal environmental conditions.
Edit: Just re-read your post and realize you isolated him, so that's good he's eating.

Re: Surface molt....
Agree, keep him isolated and give good healthy foods. If he picked the popcorn clean, that's a good sign that he is eating.

Re: Surface molt....
Honey and bee pollen if you have it.
For calcium, something ground up like eggshells, oyster shells, calcium powder, crab/lobster exo.
Not sure what proteins your guy likes, just make sure whatever you offer is in small pieces and easy to pick up and eat.
