Where do I get the medicinal bath? HCAddiction doesn't have it available.

Argh, I have a one-legged Straw as a permanent resident in my ISO (til he molts). Since the Straw is underground and not an E do you think it would be alright for Lefty to go into that 'tat until I can come up with something else?

They are out of it? WOW  I might have some to sell you or if you have an herb shop near you that would be quicker---I would not ISO him with anyone else its contagious.

I'm just sending my hubby out to the local Whole Foods in search of myrrh, calendula and chamomile.

I've put some of HCAddiction's creamed honey on the spot in the meantime since it's antibacterial and the creamed stuff has natural propulsis in it, which is also something good. He certainly doesn't know he's sick cuz he's a feisty little booger!

So now I just keep a close eye on the rest, yes? I have no idea where he dug down to molt, otherwise I'd dump some of that substrate...

I cleared ISO and made the discovery that my little one-legged Straw has four walking legs again, so he's been busy and may be glad to rejoin the general population after two months in ISO. So I had some very good news today!

BTW Hermez, thank you for your sharp eyes and good advice! I never would have noticed that dent on Lefty's claw until it got much, much worse!

I hope I caught it in time and none of the other crabs show up with it, but since he came in a batch of seven I expect I'll have to keep a close eye on the others.

Two others -- I think from that batch -- passed during my recent mass-molt. I wonder if it's related...?

O.k., my hubby is amazing. He spent a couple of hours checking out different health food stores (luckily we live in California) and he got all the ingredients for a hermie bath and my herbs are steeping and cooling :).

Well, it would have taken a few days to get it from Vicki anyway, so I was able to get started with the baths already this way. I hope I'm doing it right. I make Lefty crawl around in a dish of it for a while after putting her in upside down. When she's done I coat the affected area with some of HCAddiction's creamed honey. Lefty is really hating me at this point!

She's amazingly feisty for someone with a life-threatening bacterial infection. I hope that's a good sign!

you should not submerge the crab- you are treating the BP as the marshmallow root makes a slime coating and will smother the gills--it can be pretty thick-when you need to treat the WHOLE crab leave out the M root ---for future info to be stored in the brizainium, :D

I followed the bites for "Specific Wash for Bacterial Infection" over on the coenobita.org site:

http://coenobita.org/xoops/modules/arti ... .php?id=10

You leave out the marshmallow root and let the crab sit in the wash to prevent/treat lesions on the abdomen :). The other instructions are for an injury to one part of the crabbie.

When bathing the crabs, bathe the affected parts only. I don't see any
need to get the stuff on the gills,
unless there is an infection of the
abdomen.
if you are turning the crab over and the water is getting in the shell its getting on the gills
after putting her in upside down.
thats how I took what you said

EDIT: confused sorry- I pm'd you my opinion :)

[smilie=hug.gif] I'm glad to hear that Lefty is doing well for ya & is fiesty. Gotta love those Es. I agree w/Hermez, I would only treat the affected area. I treated a Straw w/a bacterial infection & she did well w/the treatment...albiet, she got quite stubborn w/the cooperation after the first few treatments. She willingly stuck her leg in the salt H2O all the time, but would withdraw when trying to keep her leg in the bath! :x Hope your little guy cooperates w/ya.
And I'm so very glad to hear that your Straw is once again whole! That's terrific news. [smilie=banana.gif] Keep us posted on Lefty's progress. And bless your husband for running out to get the ingredients! [smilie=hug.gif] What a guy! :)

I've been obsessively checking my other Es! I found one more with a claw dent and possibly a little black, and one more with a tiny, tiny dent, so I'm not taking any chances. They're all in ISO and getting treatment. The infection doesn't seem to be spreading on the crabs who have (or may have) it.

I'm trying to figure out if I can add a little Melafix water -- very dillute -- to my big tank's substrate. I would rather not have to replace 100+ lbs of substrate! But I would like opinions on that. I think the issue with Melafix was maybe being used too much and not diluted enough. Any advice is welcome!

Really don't know much about it's use, but I know that the one thing that was stressed to me was the importance of getting rid of the bacterial infected sand. I can really understand your reluctance at that one! I wouldn't want to have to do the 50# of sand! I do hope that someone w/more experience helps ya out. Keep us posted on your babies. I'm hoping for the best for ya! [smilie=hug.gif] It's like a hermie nightmare. :(
