I didn't have any soft drink container cut offs recently when one of my small crabs was moulting, so I had to think of something pretty quickly. The solution was a plastic ice cream cone holder that we had. I just turned it upside down over the crab and pushed it into the sand a bit. Looked a bit daft but it worked really well. The crab dug itself out after about 2 weeks and went on its way.
It kept the moisture and heat in as well as allowing ventilation through the top of the tube part.
Hope I have explained this OK.
PS we got the cone holder at Sea World, but surely they are available in shops??
Try this to isolate small crabs

That's actually quite innovative. Sounds like it would work pretty well. The soft-drink container cutoff/2liter solution is kind of a general idea, really. You can pretty much use anything that's got a hole at the top for ventilation but is too small for other crabs to get in through, and is sturdy enough to be pushed down into place as a shield for the crab.
