ruggie molt

Post by brad873 » Mon Apr 07, 2008 2:28 am

well, hurricane has finally dug down, but its in one of the second levels. they are shallow, and i assume its a molt because he is a small and has not molted with me yet, and its been almost a year. the problem is, whenever i spray the second levels (which are keeping my humidity up) he comes up, then digs down again. what should i do?

Brad, I'm not sure what you should do either, but I hope everything works out for you. My crabs do the same thing. They all bury in the moss pit and then when I spray it, they get aggravated and come out. I guess if it's bugging your little one enough I hope he'll find a more appropriate spot. I'll be waiting to see how things turn out. Good luck! :)

Any way you can get him to the first level? Maybe he just needs a little 'push' from you?

Brad:

I understand your concern. Our Aggie, who is a medium small, has been with us for almost 11 months. She's fairly active and always on the surface and has yet to moult, or even bury down.

If there is anything you can do in a situation like this, when you know you crab moult is long overdue, we'd all probably like to know.

Could you not just move him into isolation and leave him there till he's moulted?

Maybe he wants to surface moult? Or not dig too deep atleast? Perhaps a week in ISO and he might either start moulting or do nothing and you can move him back?
