Ruggie Molt Behavior...

Post by Guest » Fri May 30, 2008 3:17 pm

I had a ruggie in a really bad shell, with a hole in the bottom. I took him home, and he REFUSED to change shells... he was shy and kind of sweet, a really good little crab... then the day I put him in the main tank, he went under.

I expected destressing, but when he didn't come up I figured he had passed on.

Well he came up last week, tearing around the tank, eating all the food he could find, and being a little wild-man. I checked, and sure enough he molted (and turned blue)....

Well then he just became a jerk. If you take him out he flails around and tries to run all over, he's hyperactive to a bad degree, and he's deciding to pick fights with everyone in the tank. I had to separate Ash because he was bullying him after Ash lost a leg the week before. He has also grown quite a bit... he's now in a 3/4" shell, and could almost go a size up.

Has anyone seen ruggies come up from a molt and flip out like this?

that happens with many crabs. comet was a shy little sweety when i got her, and she molted, and became an active little booger. shadow has become more aggressive and lightning is less active. it happens. im not sure if my ruggie molted or not, but he has become more of a climber. it happens, but he might cool down soon. have any new crabs been added while he was down?

Yea... three ruggies were added. But, he went under almost instantly, so he didn't even have a chance to "meet" other crabs
