Was This A Bad Idea?

My hermit Nicky has been burrowing down a lot lately. I don't think he's getting ready to molt because he is EXTREMELY hairy. I actually think he nay have just molted before I adopted him. Now my area of concern: I needed deeper substrate so I got some today. My boyfriend has been watching Nicky for the day and said that he came up this morning after being buried for about a day. Well he ended up burying himself again a few hours later. Was it a really dumb idea to put the new substrate on top of him?
I guess I'm afraid he won't be able to find his way out now that there is a few extra inches on top of him that wasn't there before...

He'll be fine. Some crabs just like to dig!

Its not the burying of himself that concerns me, its that I put several inches of substrate on top of him and I'm afraid he won't be able to find his way out...

He really will be okay :) I have 13 inches of sub in my tat and they never fail to reappear. I've never heard of a crab getting lost under the substrate and not being able to dig their way up (in the event that nothing else was stopping them from doing so). As long as you added it gently and didn't collapse any caves you should be fine.
