1st molt

Post by Thejohnay » Tue May 31, 2016 10:00 am

We woke up this morning to see our 1st molter come back up after 41 days. I made sure both water dishes and the food dish were filled. Are there any other steps we need to take? He seems a little scared right now so just letting him be. There is another crab in the tank and we have them separated at the moment. Are they ok to be together or should we give it a couple days?

Give him some organic honey for a boost and maybe mix some calcium supplement in the food let him get going a little. Be very careful and dip him in fresh dechlorinated water before combining the crabs to get "the molt smell" off.

If he had a normal molt in the main tank and dug up by himself, you do not need to do anything special. Of course, clean fresh and salt water and a variety of healthy foods should be available at all times.

If your crab molted in a different tank for whatever reason, place him in the fresh water dish in the main crabitat first so he smells familiar to the other crabs.
