Shell change during molt?

One of my crabs who has been down molting for a few weeks, I think came up and changed it's shell and than disappeared again. The crab was wearing a greed turbo and I found one in the shell shelf covered in sand. Not just a bit from crabs dragging sand in. I am almost positive it was the old shell,

Do crabs ever come up from a molt to change shells only to disappear again?

Mine came up from a molt and dig back down everyday for a week then resurfaced at night then back down he went lol

It happens. I have crabs come up from being down from weeks just to go back down after a snack and a drink. Sometimes they just weren't ready...or who really knows what their crabby lil motives are? lol
