I have been crabbing off and on for a long while now and have had too many molts to count. On Friday 7/14 I stopped by my local pet shop to browse around. I got to the hermit crab tank and found 4 dead guys and no water. They died coming out of thier shells into the water dish, probably suffocating from no water to put in their shells. He had 2 survivors. I paid for one and he gave me the other.
The 2 that I got in those dire conditions instantly changed shells at the shell shop and dug down to destress. I peaked in on them that night and they were up munching out. Probably been a while since they were given such an assortment to chose from. Havent see too much of them the last 4 days. today (day 5) I noticed an unfamiliar crab walking around getting food. Its one of the new guys and he has hairy legs and long tips. He has just molted.
I have never had one molt in less than 5 days and already be up in a new shell walking around.
Whats the fastest anyone of you guys have had one molt and what conditions did the crab come from?
How fast have you seen a crab molt?

The actual molting process itself goes quickly. It's usually the destressing period/resting before the molt that takes quite a while.
Mine are always under, it seems. I have a tank full of diggers.
