How long does it take for jumbos to molt?
I had a extra large -pretty much jumbo at this point- crab (blueberry if that matters) go down to molt in mid-october and I'm just wondering how much longer it will be. I've heard people say there's molted for 8 or 9 months but is that a realistic expectation or just a randomly long molt? I'm basically just asking what the average molt time for a extra large/jumbo crab is.

Re: How long does it take for jumbos to molt?
I have had my two crabs for over ten years, and they are jumbos now. They definitely don't molt as frequently as they used to. Last year, Cher went down for 3 months, came up for a couple of hours, then went down for 2 more months. Sonny was down for four months. That is one of the few times that I actually kept track of the actual number of months that they were under.
Cher just finished another molt (she is smaller than Sonny), and I think she was down for about three or four months this time.

Two for four months is normal for big guys. There seems to be an online competition these days over how long crabs stay down.
