Moving with a molting crab

We in a month. My daughter has 2 crabs. One had started digging and showing signs of wanting to molt. So we went ahead and set up their travel tank with 3 inches of sand and water and hiding spots (I was hoping to convince Ra not to molt until we get in our new home in June).

Needless to say since I am posting this did not work. He dug under the piece of wood I put in to hold their water dishes, and has built a good cavern to molt in. I am not concerned that he will be safe. The wood has slits so he will get air even if something causes his tunnels to the cavern to fall apart.

But my concern is we have another crab in the travel bin. Do I need to set up his own travel bin until we get moved so he does not try to eat the molting crab?

Yeah, I would set the other guy up separately. The molter may not be buried deep enough to prevent the other crab from either coming across him accidentally if he starts digging, or smelling him molting and purposefully going after him.

Thanks. That was my concern. We know where Osiris is, he dug right up under the slated wood piece we stuck to hold the water bowls so they can easily be moved. So I know when he molts, Ra could smell him because of where he is.

We do not have another critter keeper, we do have a bug container (it has small holes on the side and not as good as the critter keeper). I set that up for now. I don’t want him to get to the other crab before tomorrow. It will hold in enough humidity and heat for now. But I will probably go buy another critter keeper tomorrow.
