Traveling between states, both crabs assumed to be molting

Post by HermieGuy » Mon Aug 12, 2024 1:28 pm

Back in June I drove down to the state of Delaware for a two-month vacation. I took the crabs' tank with me, safely strapped into the backseat of my car as I drove.

In a couple of days I'm driving back up to Pennsylvania, but both of my crabs are currently underground and I have not heard them moving for nearly a week. I assume that both are molting.

I absolutely HAVE to take the tank back home with me, but I don't know if I will be able to safely move the tank into the backseat of my car without damaging my crabs' tunnels. Also, the temperature and humidity of my tank has been great here, and I haven't needed a heat mat at all for the past two months, but I'm not sure if any changes in either of those will affect my crabs' molting process.

For anyone wondering what the temperature/humidity of my tank is currently at:

Tank temp is at 82° F and the humidity is at 85%.

If they are underground, all that moving and bumping the tank around could definitely cause the tunnels and caves to collapse.
Many people choose to dig up the crabs and isolate them separately in order to move. Then keep the isolation containers in something that can keep the temperature and humidity in a good range.
