My smaller straw, Mike is finally up from a molt Yay! I'm so glad that I've finally been able to provide the right environment for these beauties. Rube has finished her second molt with me and I'm just waiting for her to come up. Boy, I'd better get my arse in gear and get that big tank finished so these guys can have more room. I have one more down.
I kinda over crowded my tank in the fall thinking that I'd have the big one done a lot faster. I just couldn't resist those red beauties and thought they had a better chance with me than in that dry pet store, or with someone who didn't know better. So far so good.
Apparently I'm not the best crabby mommy as this seems to be the only picture of Mike that i have before his molt.
and here he is now.
I'm still not great at photographing these little guys. I keep trying though.
I'm still waiting for Rube to come up from her second molt. I know she's done eating her exo though.
Here she is missing a leg when I got her
and after her first molt with a new leg.

I'll work on the pics tomorrow. I'm anxious to see Rube cause she regrew a leg last time and it was lighter in color. Mike looks lighter than he did before he molted. I wonder if he'll still get darker, or are they not getting enough of what they need for color

Re: Pics
WOW, that looks great!
I'm really "unlucky" (I guess that's the word) when it comes to straws......
....maybe it's bad karma........

We weren't successful with our first couple straws either. Our first crab ever was a straw and at that point we had no idea there were even different species
My son and I both wanted to try again and justified our own selfishness with the fact that the longer they stayed in the pet store the less of a chance they had of survival. I'm glad we took a chance. We've had Rube since July and Mike, and a couple others since the end of Sept.

Beautiful straws - great color!
Awww, Mike is so cute! I hope to find a little straw like him someday.
Yay for the successful molt w/ Mike and best wishes for Rube's molt.

Those are some beautiful pictures! Your Straws all look so happy and colorful.
And don't think your a bad crabby mom since you didn't have a lot of pictures of Mike, I used to not even take pictures of them!

Interesting. I've had 4 straws that all perished in less than 3 months, so I'm a still a bit apprehensive. Prolly easier if I adopt one (perhaps better acclimated) from a keeper in the future....oh well.

I currently have a molted straw in ISO who didn't eat all his exo yet... Hopefully mine will be as good as yours. My straw was very malnourished when i purchased him (I have another post going with pics) and was never really a red, more a pinkish with a few blackish stripes. He is still the salmon color. Do you think he will get darker as the molt finishes or will he always be that salmon color?
