"Bottle capping" refers to the term to help keep your molter safe from other crabs. What you would do is cut the bottom off of a 2-liter bottle of soda and place it over the molting crab spot and press down.

I don't practice this method because I wouldn't want to harm the molting crab. :|

This isn't something you're supposed to do with a molting crab that's doing well. This is more of an emergency ISO method. If you bottle cap, its because things have gone wrong somewhere down the line. You want to make sure the bottle has something, (like moss or a damp cloth), to keep it dark inside and that the top of the bottle is removed so that air can get in. I also like to give a few spritzes of mist in there once every few days to keep it moist. If you're doing it as intended it won't hurt the crab, as you know exactly how the crab is situated, (Surface molt, dug up molter, etc). This is not something you ever want to try on someone who's molting naturally and in a well concealed location.

thanks for the info guys. I haven't set my ISO tank up yet. Mostly because of lack of space and a 20 month old son who knows how to open the lid, so i have to find someplace he can't reach it. i am hoping to get a stand soon.
