How long can a jumbo not molt?

Post by Guest » Sat Apr 12, 2008 9:31 am

My jumbo I have had for about a year. I'm starting to worry about him (Just cuz - He appears very healthy and is one of my most active crabs)... But I'm wondering if there is a length of time that they have before they need to molt? I thought he would've molted by now. He digs under for a day or to, he will go in the BIG hidey hut for a day or to, destroy the tat, they go up and hang out in the moss pit. That seems to be his favorite.... Whoever gave me the idea for a moss pit on here it is great all my hermies love it, it isn't rare to see 6 or 7 huddling together in there. But back to my ? I had 1 of my older hermit crabs die a month ago who was over a year old that I purchased from the Boardwalk. I rarely ever, I mean ever saw him, maybe 3 times since I purchased him, he was always underground. He never molted and I guess he was just to stressed to. I dont want this to happen with my jumbo tho :( ...
Thanks for listening. Usually when I buy hermies, they dig down and come back up molted so this is a bit weird. Hope I shouldn't be worried yet!

There's a chart, but it's not scientific. Jumbos usually moult between 1 year to 18 months. So I don't think you should worry just yet.
