I have two hermit crabs which I have had for a couple of months, I was changing the water on saturday morning I noticed one of the crabs had lost one of his front legs. I checked on him though the day and he seemed fine but when I checked him in the afternoon he had died. I think this could have been because he was too big for his shell as he was hanging out of it as if looking for a new one and may have got cold. Could this be the case. Any info welcome.

is your temp too hot because sometimes they hang out of there shells to cool off... did he molt with you yet sometimes the place that we get them from has not good conditions and it is to hard for them too overcome, the lost leg could have been from pps... how is your conditions? also if u only have 1 remaining hermie i would suggest to get another maybe @ least 2 more to keep him company....
