Escargot shells

Post by Visual » Wed Dec 07, 2016 10:16 pm

Has any one ever used or bought the shells that are typically served with escargot? I ordered them awhile back but they seem thinner walled. Is that normal?

Yes i got a bunch of snail shells when i first started crabbin' Too thin in my estimation. My crabs were smart enough not to use them. I find them too fragile for hermit crab antics.

Yup - several members will crush shells as an alternate calcium source, while others just leave a shell in the tat and let their crabs have their way with it. Crabs will modify shells by chewing off bits, or in the case of one poor crabber, simply destroy a prized (and pricey) shell by chewing it up.
