Gold Mouth Turbos

Post by crabby33 » Sun Aug 13, 2017 7:24 pm

Why do some people say that crabs won't wear Gold Mouth Turbos? I have a crab that is wearing a Gold Mouth.

Mine wear them also. :) They tend to be a little heavier/thicker than the more preferred shells.
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

Once they are given other turbos like tapestry and fluctuosus, they will almost never look at gold mouths again!

I don't have just Gold Mouths. I have tapestries, magpies, banded turbos, green turbos, a murex and some polished turbos. But my crabs have taken a gold mouth and murex until they're ready to move out. I have seen my one crab above ground shell shopping but he couldn't find one he wanted to change into and walked away.

Its not they wont, but over the years, with many crabbers and crabs of research, its UNLIKELY that they will wear gold mouths. not to say they wont, but crabs normally choose others.

i dont like saying normally. every crab is different and i feel enough of us and our crabs prove that wrong. its more about them finding the perfect shell to fit a need; only they know what will work. i really feel options are best. my largest crab perfers silver and gold mouth turbos and mexican turbos.

Out of over 75 crabs to come through my rescue, none would take a gold mouth when other types of turbos were offered.

They are not a preferred shell.

Five PPs

Gary - owned four months - came in a painted jade turbo has only tried on jade turbos

Tina - owned one year - perfers what i call apple murexs. Does try on other murexs and will occasionally wear a turbo for a few hours. Longest has been a two day spree till a new murex was put in.

Hermione - owned one year - loves her turbos. Hasn't tried on or worn anything different with me.

RoxSand - owned one year - only wears odd shells. Came in a common land snail shell and has only ever worn murex shells. Pink and apple seem to be a favorite. She put a jade turbo one but i realized when she did i had no murexes in that size window; got her one and low and behold what she put on.

Eugene - owned four months - came in a jade turbo changed the first day with me into a silver. Spent almost two months in a gold. Currently is changing between a gold and silver almost nightly.

I have roughly 60 turbos in the tank. 50 are jade turbos.

I think they like them better when they are pearlized cuz they are much lighter. I had a crab ware an unpolished one for a couple a weeks but that's it. They still get tried on though.

^ Yeah, I have a pearled goldmouth that has been passed back and forth a lot between my two largest crabs, often worn for days at a time. They spend on average more time in the other turbos (and Citarium picas - magpies, which surprises me still) but the heavily polished gold mouth is still in play.

In contrast, both a striped & a plain goldmouth I gave the smaller guys have never been in play long enough for me to clock it. But unlike JustJay, I've never had a crab choose a murex... my murexes are on the way to becoming sprout planters.

Quince the fat tailed gecko; Amazonian minnows; and now Harry & Luis, Bede & Aster, Chandra & Jace, Pax, & Piccolo, my adopted PPs.

I find it crazy how different every crab can be! I wonder what brings it on.

I am actually looking at getting some spotted turbos and Mexican turbos if I can find them. I have one Mexican turbo but it's too big right now, it's 1 1/4" and Timon is wearing a 7/8" Goldmouth. I also have tapestry turbos but they're too big too. So I have some of the preferred species but not in the right size. My other crab is wearing an apple murex and has shown no interest in changing. I'm thinking he doesn't see a need.
