I've had my hermit crab for 10 years, and I am unable to find a shell that is big enough for him. He needs a shell with a 2 inch (+) opening, but the ones I've gotten for him haven't worked.
When he was small he liked the babylonia areolata shells, and as he's grown he's preferred Japanese land snail shells. He is currently in the largest Japanese land snail shell I've been able to find (about a 1.75 inch opening).
He hated the tonna and murex shells I got him, and he tried them on but then buried them immediately. I got a polished jade green turbo shell from etsy, but he didn't even try it on! It is significantly thicker than the land snail shells he is used to, which I think is part of the problem (But it could also be that it's polished, or that the turbo shape is different from what he's had before.) I've looked through older posts on this topic, and a lot of people recommend turbo shells, But he doesn't seem to like them.
I need help finding a shell he will like with a 2 inch opening, and I can't find any other options anywhere. Does anyone have any recommendations?

It's about a 2 1/2" opening, and might fit.
Great work on having him for 10 years!
I'd try beach shops for shells, and you can ask around for larger shells.

I wonder if a pearled turbo would appeal to him... with so much more material taken off, it would probably be a bit lighter. I remember seeing 2" opening pearl turbos at Richard's site a while back.

I have had a lot of luck with murex shells and with fox shells. The turbos get pretty heavy as they get larger, and some crab simply don't seem to like the extra weight. You can also get turbos that are pearlized, meaning that they have sanded down the exterior, which makes them lighter. I have yet to see my largest try one of those, but it is quite beautiful, so I keep it on hand.

I've also seen good quality turbo shells on Amazon too.
