Does this shell look too big?

I know it's not the best pic, sorry. I am trying to figure out what size shells I should be getting. This guy has been swapping shells every single night, and they have been all different sizes. 5/8", 6/8", 7/8", 1". I have one of every size in the tank right now because I don't know what to get, since he has been bouncing around between all the sizes.

I was trying to figure out, based on his claw on that shell, if it looks like the right size or too big? Any idea?

I have been trying not to handle them since they are fairly new rescues and still settling in. Eventually I will probably take them out and try to measure them, but for now, any ideas?

That's a good size for him, even though it looks too big. Smaller crabs will often choose shells they need to grow into. He could wear shells that are smaller and perhaps even a touch larger - they all have their own preferences.

I used to have some crabs who wore shells far too large for them, now they all wear shells that are too small!

PP’s will often choose shells that are too big for them, which serves as growing room for them, or shells that are too small. E’s don’t favor large shells, instead they will usually choose close tight fitting shells so they can run away faster than hiding into a shell.
