Hiding ?

Post by citiliviey » Thu Feb 19, 2015 1:47 am

He climbed into and empty shell and just sat there, is he okay ? He didn't get out of his shell, he just walked right into the empty one . What does this mean ? I'm worried . Thanks !Image

Crabs are just weird. They crack me up with some of the stuff like this they do. I always say that the #1 rule of crabbing is that crabs are weird. Who knows what is going through his little hermit mind right now. Maybe he is just curious or wanted to take a nap in the dark. Ya never know with these quirky little guys.
#1 rule of crabbing - crabs are weird.
#2 rule of crabbing - see above

Smaller crabs often use the way larger shells as hides. Good opportunity for cute pics! ;)

In the wild their number one predator is birds, so during the day they want to be under cover and feeling secure that something isn't going to come out of the sky and snatch them. They'll hide absolutely anywhere they think they can fit. :) Ironically, providing more hides and cover (fake plants) gets them to come out and explore more, since they feel more comfortable and know that safety is only a dash away.
