Removing salt from shells

Post by SoCal Crabs » Thu Nov 12, 2015 3:19 am

Hi all, first post here :)

I got some turbo shells from an aquarium store today. I boiled them and they look great and colorful when wet. When they dried they had this salty film over them. I tried rinsing them again and the same thing happened. Does anyone know how I can remove the salt so they look ok when dry? In a way that would be safe for the crabs and not damage the shells? Sorry I would post pictures but I don't know how to yet!

That is not salt but calcium from the shell I believe.I think you have to polish the shell.

You can oil them too. I have a few that are dull and I put a tiiiiiny bit of vegetable oil on and wiped it off. Even 6 months later they look great.
