Boiling shells in pot

Since hermit crabs are sensitive to metal is it safe to boil shells in a metal pot? (Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.) Thanks for your help!

Crabbing since July 2014! 75 gallon with 12 Purple Pinchers.
