Is it safe for the hermit crabs to have little holes in their shell? I don't want to use them if it's not safe. The dime is for referencing the size.ImageImageImage

Hermit crabs shouldn't have holes in their shells. Stuff might get in the holes and hurt their sensitive abdomen. However, I think there was a thread about fixing small holes using aquarium silicone or something like that, though.

I offer mine shells with pin-sized holes, but they never get taken. The shells you posted have major holes. Even if you were to offer them - and it goes against recommendations to offer shells that have ANY holes - they wouldn't even get looked at so long as there were other proper choices available.

I say you should just buy some more shells, the cost for that is what you can use to buy 3 more shells in types that they would prefer and are better quality. Plus I believe that even when you fill the holes its not as smooth as a normal shell would be.

Yep, new shell are much cheaper than epoxy and much more likely to be worn.
