Polishing shells?

Is there a way to polish shells myself? I have so many that would be much prettier if they were polished and shiny. If I knew how to do it, I would have a fun weekend...

I'd recommend a Dremel tool. They have tons of different attachments polishing wheels etc.

I've been wondering the same. I have a dremel tool and was going to do some experimenting this weekend. I will let you know the results

Generally speaking, yes, it can be done. I did try just polishing (stupid me forgot to take a picture) but I was more curious about removing the calcification so that the nacre is exposed. Using a dremel, it can be done. I will say that it was very time consuming to get through the calcification, but once I got a spot of the nacre showing through, it went pretty quickly. I'm posting before and mostly done photos (I hope - first time trying photos on tapatalk). I want to spend more time on this one, clean up the nacre and do an all-over polish, but I had to stop for now; the dremel numbed my fingers

So you just used a dremmel? I watched a video on YouTube and there was a warning to wear a mask because shell dust causes some very bad lung disease I can't spell or pronounce lol I'm going to ask my stepdad for his dremmel or maybe just buy my own cuz that is exactly what I am talking about!

Yea, I definitely suggest a mask and safety goggles.
Yep yep, just a dremel - I have a large set with various different bits, but the one I found most effective was a smaller, teardrop shaped one. For just buffing to a sheen, I had the best luck with the white-ish cloth one
