Boil to clean them then let them cool before giving to your babies.

Yep! Seconding Turtle.
I like to inspect them as well. You never know. I run my finger over the edge to make sure its not sharp. If im feeling funky ill hide them around the tank. The boys love finding "new" freshly washed shells.

Use dechlorinated water - boil them first. Then dip in dechlorinated marine salt water to make crabs go nuts over them! Check for holes and sharp edges before presenting to crabs.
