Morning Mayhem

Post by Kaye5802 » Wed Sep 13, 2017 9:28 am

My two hermit crabs Lyle and Clem have been making me laugh so hard recently! I finally got the tank temperature at the perfect spot consistently and those two have been so active. Let's start with Clem's adventures. She's usually my timid crab and it's taken about nine months for her to really be comfortable with being out in the daytime and letting me move things in the tank with out instantly burying herself (Lyle is a friendly guy and totally doesn't mind me being there) and she'd only been in 3 different shells the whole time of having her until last Sunday! I went to Florida recently and bought mostly turbos and a few oval openings and my favorite shell out of the bunch she chose! Lyle had already been in that shell and switched several times but it was amazing to see her in a shell other than the one she's been in for months. She even let me pick her up and take her out for some cute pictures. Monday morning I found Clem in the biggest shell in the tank other than my two murexes (she's my smaller crab) I think the opening is an inch and 3/4? But I could be wrong it's an older shell. Her usual shell could almost fit in this shell and she looks so funny! I wish I had a good picture of her in the Japanese land snail shell.

And then there's Lyle. I have an old turbo shell that me and my family call "Ol' reliable" because Lyle always seems to go back to that shell. It was his first well fitting shell (when I got him he was in a shell that was way too small he couldn't even pull back into it) and it was really endearing because it would fall over his eye stalks when he was chilling in the moss pits or relaxed. Now it's a perfect fit not too small not too big! And while it's his perfect shell it's his favorite pastime to try on new ones. Last night for example, Lyle took off Ol' Reliable and put on a white oval shaped shell (I'm not sure what it is but it's thin and solid white and they seem to love it) from that shell, he went to a green turbo, the new shell that Clem was wearing, aaand back into old reliable. I can tell because of the placement of the shells and it's so cute waking up and being able to see Lyle's shell changing patterns!

Sorry for the insanely long post all of this just made me laugh particularly hard and I wanted to share! ImageImageImageImage

The photos don't do her colors justice she's bright purple and sooo beautiful. This is Lyle in the same shell haha. Lyle is a lot bigger than her as you can see, he's much darker too he's like a deep red with a dark dark purple claw. Both make me dearly happy!ImageImage

Haha they are so cute.

You know just yesterday i heard that when your camera takes a picture, it selectively deletes a variety of colors in order to make the file smaller. The higher end digital cameras dont do this as mich which is part of what makes the pictures so much better. No wonder you have a crab thats like, a purple/red rainbow and you take a pic of it and it looks brown!

ps, what do you consider the perfect temp? my tank hovers around 82 F and im wondering if it should be a little warmer...
