Shells both too big AND too small! Shell refusal

This is where you discuss shells for your hermit crabs. Not for selling/swapping shells, use Classified Ads for that.

Shells both too big AND too small! Shell refusal

Post by ReisDai » Fri Jan 26, 2018 4:00 am

Two of my four most active crabs both have shelll issues, Mr.Krabs is my largest and healthiest while Little Brother is my smallest and frailest being that he is very pale (I’m in the 1 month mark of owning them) Little Brother is under one inch and Mr.Krabs is 2 inches. I’ve had molting and autonomy issues with Little Brother but Mr.Krabs is most likely uncomfortable in his shell but I can’t buy online, there are no beaches nearby, and no local stores carry large shells or small shells that are safe and fit! The first time the issue came upfront to me was in the first few weeks of having them. Long story short Little Brother had molted underground and then had some type of shock and lost all his limbs and THEN went to the surface and went into the deeper salt water dish while naked and ended up on his back. He had no shell to switch into because at that time I still even couldn’t find something small enough for him and I was so upset because he denied every shell out of the dozen or so I owned, he refused ALL of them until I could find his original which is even then STILL big for him.
Man I’m stuck what should I do ? It seems like every option has been wiped off the table since I can’t order online and no one in my area really CARES about crabs...
My four crab babies- Mr.Krabss;Little Brother;Leelo;Alice
Fairly new in all this crabby business but I’m trying really hard to keep them happy and safe- ANY criticism allowed. Also please tell me if I’m using something dangerous!
I have 3 dogs, 4 cats, ball python, 4 crabs, and a American tree frog!

Have you tried craft stores and Walmart? Decorative shells for like bathrooms and vases are often sold in bags there for a decent price. It isn't their absolute favorite kind of shells, but they are completely usable and the crabs will be happy with them!
