HCA: Hermit Crab Association

At the end of December we received a large order of shells for our crabs. The first night one crab (Pinchy) tried a bunch of shells then picked one and the other crab Oscar jumped in the first shell he found. Oscar has stayed in the first shell he picked, but Pinchy changes shells frequently. Is it normal for them to change frequently or does it mean that she can't find a shell that she likes? Her favorite shell is Oscar's old shell. Sometimes she changes multiple times a day.

It's normal for crabbies to check out many shells. It's like trying on pants or shopping for a new house! What's not good is a naked crab! We have crabs that change shells daily or weekly. Other crabs will stay in the same shell for years. All crabs have personal preferences as well as unique likes and personalities!
