How to measure shells?

Im buying shells online for the first time and im mainly concerned about what size to buy for my largest hermit crab. What is the proper way to measure what size shell u should buy next?ImageImageImage

Not quite. The ruler goes horizontally across the widest (middle) portion of the opening.

How to measure shells?

It’s hard to measure with little legs in the way. Lol! Some sell by opening and some sell by shell length. My artwork isn’t the best but here’s how to measure for opening and shell length. Image
