Freezing or dehydrating??

Post by Juniperblossom » Wed Mar 30, 2016 7:55 pm

Hello! I've looked around, so please forgive me if this is somewhere, but what is easier and better for the crabs? I usually feed our crabs an organic raw foods diet based off the nutritional post, it's what we eat and it makes it easy lol, but I got my hands on some beautiful fresh berries and I'd like to keep some back for future use. Our local grocery store hardly ever has berries. Anyone have any good methods for food storage for crabs? I thought about attempting to use my freezer and freeze dry some but I'm hesitant. I'm also hesitant to use my oven as a dehydrator. Any advice would be great. Thank you!

I'm glad I'm not the only one haha! hopefully someone knows something. I figured if I had the option I would go with a preferred method or a better method for the crab babies.

I think that freezing is best if you will use the item within a few months. Dehydrated food lasts longer and the flavors concentrate. Keep out excess moisture and keep them as cool as you can whichever method you use. A deep freeze or chest freezer is better than the one on top of your fridge.

Thank you for your input. I'll probably go freeze method just because I think it'll be easier than leaving my oven on for a while. Can I store freeze dried items back in my freezer or are they better off in my fridge or like a back part of a cabinet? So to be clear I just chuck up some food in about same size pieces and leave them in my deep freeze until they don't change colors when I leave them out to sit right? I've never done this before so I'm a bit nervous and I hate waisting food lol. ImageImage
