Food gone bad?

Post by GalaxyCrab22 » Fri Feb 03, 2017 11:38 pm

Hey guys! I just have a little bit of a concern. I feed my guys flukers premium variety diet as a staple food. And today when mixing the food for feeding, I noticed the consistency of it was off. It looked like it had gotten damp but it's always sealed tight and never in a damp area. Also, the smell is strong, almost like cat piss or a strong irony smell. It doesn't look moldy but when I was hand mixing it was mild able like sand

Is this normal and safe for them to eat still or is it a bad batch and should I get another bottle?

I would contact the vender on the bottle to get your money back and explain the situation. Definitely seems odd- but they should be able to tell you what is up as well.

Can do! I know the vender and she's all about the safety of her customers and their pets. The expiration date is good but it just seems odd yes. I'm not feeding it to them, but they have all of the organic foods I got from hugsforhermits. May have to change foods and go with a hermie's kitchen base.

I mean, it could just be fine and is how the product settles, I mean I doubt the crabs would notice if its just slightly "off" but if there is truly something wrong that could be a problem too. Perhaps she will just replace the product and that will be the end of it? You are referring to the "bearded dragon" food right, with the mealworms and various other proteins?

it's the hermit crab premium variety diet they make, and usually it's not that consistency. It's got dried shrimp and kelp and stuff and it's on the safe foods list, that's why I started to get it because my vender and her store had it . It feels damp and it doesn't look the normal tan color it's more like a darker tan almost grey...?!

Has it been open for awhile? Or is it brand new? But that's odd... I suppose I've never had that exact variety so I'm not really sure. Unless something in the batch didn't get dried enough and is starting to ferment? Only thing I can even think might have happened. :/

I've had it for a little while but it's always closed tight after feedings. I always check the lids. It's still pretty full since I try and give them a variety and not just that as a whole. That could be that it didn't dry correctly.

Sounds like it went bad. I would contact the vendor, and or return it to the store
