Sweet Potato

My wife has decided to grow a sweet potato, but the vines are getting a little out of hand. Can I give them some clippings from the plant?

The sweet potato it self is fine. My crabs really love it steamed with a lil sea salt but idk about the greens though. I would think it would be okay but I'd wait for a better answer. Oh and I only use organic sweet potato because I worry about the fertilizer n such.
