Feeding Chicken
Hi, I just fed my hermit crabs their first bit of raw chicken last night.
How do I expect them to approach it at first? Are they going to attack it, and devour it, or are they going to take time to get used to it?
I got all natural chicken thighs, and diced them into a few bits, which were placed in their bowl.
They dragged one out, and covered it in dirt (picky crabs!) not far from the bowl.
Anyway, what should I expect from my crabs?
They are all PP's.

Re: Feeding Chicken
They may demolish it; they may just nibble. Every crab - and group of crabs - are different.

I feed mine a mix of raw, dried and dehydrated meats. The most ive gotten is a quick shuffle to a dish. [They also do this for some other things as well]Fanatic wrote:Hi, I just fed my hermit crabs their first bit of raw chicken last night.

Re: Feeding Chicken
Next week I'll introduce a little more chicken, just so they become familiar with it.
I just started feeding them meats.

Re: Feeding Chicken
They are omnivores so they like a surprising amount of different foods. I use vital essential treats and they are all crab safe; plus usually cheaper that reptile stuff. [The dog is a larger size than cat.] They have great things like whole minnows. I like a few other raw dog/cat treats. Even some chicken insect treats that are just dehydrated insects. The favorites are Plato dried whole caplin, [haven't tried the hunders crunch but may it's just fish skin] a dried shrimp, [koren snack food found at local China mart] honey and oranges. A few other things are popular too but thats the main foods for my PPs personally.Fanatic wrote:Next week I'll introduce a little more chicken, just so they become familiar with it.

Re: Feeding Chicken
What about river shrimp in water, are those any good?

Re: Feeding Chicken
Should be fine. Depends on if there are any hidden additives. If its just shrimp and water, its ok.
