Raw fish?

Post by ShelbyNS » Sun Aug 10, 2008 12:17 am

My brother goes bowfishing and shoots carp and gar all the time. Could I feed them gar/carp/catfish wild caught from a lake (lake Murray). Do I need to cook it, or feed it raw?

I would steam it first (or boil, or microwave, whatever you prefer) before feeding just to avoid any bacterial issues with you handling the crabs and touching the substrate.

Other than that, the crabs could have it raw, but for your safety it should be kept cooked.

I only feed my crabs raw meat on rare occasions and make sure it's removed within 24 hours of placement.
